Planning permission granted for Bodington Pavilion and sports park

August 01, 2016

Planning permission has been granted for a £5m investment that will create significant training facilities for cycling and triathlon in Leeds

The proposals, which are part of the University’s sports and physical activity strategy, have been drawn up in partnership with British Cycling, British Triathlon, UK Sport and Leeds City Council.

The proposals will refurbish the existing Bodington changing pavilion at the Sports Park Weetwood site and create of a new closed road circuit cycle track.

The proposed 1.6km closed road circuit cycle track will loop around the sports pitches and make use of the undulations and site’s natural topography to provide interest. The proposed new track will continue to develop the interests of cyclists of all levels, both within the University and local community, following on from the massive success of both the ‘Tour de France’ ‘Tour de Yorkshire’ and ITU world triathlon.

The refurbished pavilion building will create modern changing facilities, along with social and support accommodation for the University of Leeds. It will also house some training, treatment and office accommodation as a permanent base for British Triathlon within the region
